"YouTube-Safe" refers to a feature we've developed for content creators that unlocks hours of 100% pre-cleared music with YouTubes's platform. Yes, you read that right!
Being a Pretzelbite gives you full access to a subsection of our catalog that we've worked hard to assemble for you alongside Artists/Rightsholders. A catalog that's been protected from DMCA takedown notifications and Copyright Strikes!
We make it easy to filter the music in our player so you can find everything you need in one place. By toggling this filter on in your Pretzel dashboard, you'll have over 150,000 tracks to choose from that can be used in the background of your live streams.
Here's what you can find in this article:
- How can I be sure the music I am using in Pretzel's player is safe for use?
- So, YouTube-Safe means that I can use tracks in that catalog both for live streams and VODs, right?
- Why can't Pretzel guarantee YouTube-Safe tracks in perpetuity?
- If I cancel, will I still be safe from DMCA Takedown and Copyright Strikes
How can I be sure the music I am using in Pretzel's player is safe for use?
To be sure that you're utilizing YouTube-Safe music in our player, be sure that you've toggled on the filter in the top-right-hand corner of the player by clicking into the Avatar.
You'll also see a symbol next to tracks within the player that gives you assurance you're using a track listed YouTube-Safe.
So, YouTube-Safe means that I can use tracks in that catalog both for live streams and VODs, right?
Uploading your streams as VODs afterward is typically okay. That said, Artists can update their contracts whenever they wish. Meaning the music was safe during your live stream, and possibly even when you chose to upload the video. However, if the Artist/Rightsholders make updates to the status of their music with us at any point even months or years down the line - you could potentially receive a claim.
Don't worry, though. As long as you're still a paid subscriber with us, we've still got your back in this case. You'll remain safe from Copyright Strikes and DMCA takedown notices, however, you may be notified that you're now sharing revenue with the artist. When this happens, it's generally a tiny percentage being shared, and it's only for the track being used. Furthermore, you'll still keep 100% of any revenue earned before agreements were updated.
Why can't Pretzel guarantee YouTube-Safe tracks in perpetuity?
Artists/Rightsholders can make updates to the status of their music at any time they wish because they are, after all, the owners under copyright law. Should an Artist amend their contracts with us at any point, even months or years down the line - you could potentially receive a Copyright claim.
That said, as long as you're still a paid subscriber with us, we've still got you covered. The biggest concern creators have is that they will be issued Copyright Strikes and DMCA takedown notifications against their accounts, as well as be demonetized. That's where we come in; you'll remain safe from Copyright Strikes and DMCA takedown notices. However, if there's been a change processed on the Rightsholders end; you may be notified that you're now sharing revenue with the artist. When this happens, it's generally a tiny percentage being shared, and it's only for the track being used. Furthermore, you'll still keep 100% of any revenue earned before agreements were updated.
It's important to note, that this isn't just something you'll potentially face with Pretzel. Due to the laws surrounding copyrights and the way that YouTube's Content ID system works; it's pretty much impossible to guarantee that tracks identified as safe at the time of use, will always without doubt remain safe from claims.
For Example, In February of 2024, it was announced that UMG took down all music from TikTok following negotiations falling apart; see here to read more.
If I cancel, will I still be safe from DMCA Takedown and Copyright Strikes?
Unfortunately, we cannot promise you'll be safe from DMCA Takedown or Copyright Strikes once you cancel service. This is because once you've canceled, you're no longer protected under our service agreement. To be safe, it's best not to continue to use tracks previously downloaded or used in live streams from the Pretzel player once your service has concluded with us.
